  4. Diverse and capable fleet

Diverse range of equipment that was strategically assembled to match the worksite conditions and project scopes of oil and gas producers.

Our Process

The Lean Cycle

Our goal is to provide value to our clients. At Morgan, we manage our projects with a Lean lens.  We seek to provide value to the customer at every step of the process while minimizing waste.  Through a constant cycle of planning, doing, checking and adjusting (PDCA), we enable transparent communication and ensure project quality.

  1. 1

    Opportunities to identify value

By carefully examining oil and gas processes, such as drilling procedures, logistics, and supply chain management, we identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

  2. 2

Eliminating the eight forms of waste

Overproduction, waiting, defects, over-processing, excess inventory, unnecessary motion, unused talent, and transportation. By understanding these forms of waste, we can work to eliminate them and refine our approach.

  3. 3

    Process flow

We analyze the flow of materials and information through each stage of oil and gas production, from exploration to refining, identifying areas of inefficiency and trimming each process.

  4. 4

    Establishing pull

Work is only initiated when there is demand from the next stage in the process. By following this principle, we avoid overproduction and minimize the creation of waste.

  5. 5

    Continuous improvement

Through ongoing analysis and development, we evaluate our processes and constantly look for ways to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in the oil and gas industry.

Mine Development

TA9 Engineered Pond Bottom Cleanup

As our client progresses their mining operation, they intend to utilize a portion of the pit to store tailings which requires the installation of an engineered, competent base. A key component of this work is removing slop and unsuitable material from the existing ground that is left over from the previous mining operation.

Mustang Haul Road

To facilitate the mining of valuable oilsand that lay below their existing main ore haul road, our client contracted Morgan to construct a 4.4 kilometer, 45m wide haul road that would serve as the new main artery for their fleet of 400T Haul Trucks for the next 10 years. A delayed start on the project compressed the already strict schedule, however Morgan successfully managed changes that arose from an incomplete design, material shortages, and unforeseen infrastructure conflicts to provide a completed project ahead of the required completion date. While working on this scope we handled over 1.5M cubic meters of sand and aggregates, and installed nearly 1500 lineal meters of large diameter carbon steel pipe culverts to strict quality standards.

Cold Lake Nabiye and Projects

Morgan construction activities at Cold Lake started with the early civil works for the Nabiye Plant expansion project. The scope covers a breadth of work from timber salvage to rough grade of the entire plant site. This scope grew and included the 17km access road to the plant site and multiple km of access roads and 10 pad sites. Morgan continues to offer civil support for all expansion activities at Cold Lake including the recent GRP1 expansion project which is the largest production pad on site. Morgan has provided continuous support for existing facilities at Cold Lake. These scopes very from routine road maintenance to pipeline and well head excavations to construction of sprung structures. Our work within the existing plant sites includes below ground tank replacement, to lagoon waste hauls. Environmental scopes have included remediation and reclamation of drilling waste disposal sites, pad reclamations, tree planting and demolition of historical facilities.

North Mine Advance – Reclamation Material Salvage

As part of Mildred Lake operations reclamation scope Morgan has been trusted to remove and salvage all surface soils and subsoils in advance of mining operations for the 2021 and 2022 reclamation seasons. Reclamation salvage is critical to our client’s operations as the surface soils must be stockpiled and stored to be reused at the end of the mine life. Morgan has successfully and safely removed and salvaged over 7.5 million m3 of soil during these two seasons resulting in a long-standing partnership.

Mildred Lake Extension - West Access Road

To facilitate the development of a new oilsands mine our client trusted Morgan with the construction of 10 km of access road. Included in this project was the construction of five major water crossings, two of which were large-diameter steel culverts and three concrete bridge structures on steel-driven piles. In addition to the 10 km of high-grade road, Morgan was also tasked with the construction of a permanent laydown area that will serve as the construction management team’s office location and material storage throughout the development of the new mine.
